to apply for the job

As a music teacher at Vanstaskolan, you will have the opportunity to make music a natural part of the students' daily lives. Here, you can focus entirely on music teaching – mentorship is not included in the position, allowing you to direct your energy towards what you enjoy most.

Responsibilities

You will teach whole classes in grades 4–5 and 8–9, and half-classes in grades 6–7. This provides both the dynamics of whole-class teaching and the opportunity to work more in-depth with smaller groups. Additionally, the school is launching profile courses this autumn, where you will be responsible for two music profile sessions per week.

You plan, conduct, and evaluate teaching based on the Swedish National Curriculum for Compulsory School (Lgr22), and assign grades for grades 6–9.

About the Workplace

The primary task of the Child and Education Administration is to offer a secure and stimulating learning environment where we equip children and young people for the future. We also work to promote access to cultural and leisure activities for all residents.

Vanstaskolan is located in Nynäshamn Municipality, in a region where the sea, nature, and city pulse are within reach. The school is a grades F–9 school with several dedicated subject teachers, student health teams, and school leadership who work closely together. Here, we invest in a secure and clear learning environment where knowledge, creativity, and relationships go hand in hand.

We are part of Nynäshamn Municipality, which has a clear focus on education, equality, and long-term societal benefit. The culture at the school is non-hierarchical and collegial – we share materials, bounce ideas off each other, and help one another when schedules get busy. As a music teacher, you will collaborate closely with other practical-aesthetic subjects and participate in creating the school's musical life, concerts, and theme days.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who wants to help more students discover the joy and power of music – whether they already play three instruments or barely dare to sing. You thrive working both practically and systematically, and you enjoy the combination of classroom teaching, ensembles, digital tools, and creative approaches. You see the value of clear frameworks, but also have the courage to be flexible when reality demands it.

You enjoy collaborating with colleagues, are happy to share your ideas, and take the initiative to develop the music subject and the school's cultural and musical activities. Above all, you have a strong commitment to students in middle and upper secondary school levels, and want to contribute to a school where everyone feels welcome and seen.

To succeed in the role, you have:

To feel confident in the assignment, you need both subject competence in music and experience leading groups of children and young people. This enables you to create structure and calm while keeping the joy of playing alive.

  • Teacher's degree with a focus on music for compulsory school, or equivalent pedagogical education
  • At least 1 year of experience teaching music to students in grades 4–9
  • Good ability to play at least one chord instrument that can be used in teaching
  • Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing
  • Experience working with Lgr22, planning, assessment, and grading
  • Basic IT skills and confidence in using digital learning tools in teaching

It is meritorious if you have:

In addition to the basic requirements, we view positively any experiences and knowledge that enable us to develop our music profile and broaden the students' opportunities.

  • Experience working with music profiles, music specialization, or similar activities
  • Experience leading student performances, concerts, or other stage productions
  • Experience working in compulsory school within the public sector
  • Experience collaborating in work teams and cross-curricular projects
  • Knowledge of multiple instruments or genres that can enrich teaching
  • Knowledge in music production, sound engineering, or digital creation

Personal qualities we are looking for

To thrive with us, you need to be a confident classroom leader who can combine structure with warmth and humor. You are clear about frameworks and expectations, but also have patience when things don't work out immediately – neither for students nor for technology. You are relationship-building, build trust, and dare to be yourself, while always keeping the students' learning in focus.

What We Offer You

  • With us, you get to make a difference in people's lives. Here you have close access to your manager and colleagues, influence, and decision-making power.
  • Nynäshamn is a calm and secure municipality. Security is also found in our teams – we are non-hierarchical, encouraging, and support each other when needed.
  • Nynäshamn Municipality is part of one of Sweden's strongest growth regions. Our journey offers you challenging and varied tasks.
  • We offer free access to the gym. You also receive a wellness hour or wellness allowance.
  • You have the opportunity to exchange vacation days and pension contributions.
  • We have an active staff association where you can rent cottages in the mountains and in the archipelago. You can also participate in various activities such as padel, kayaking, and horse riding.

Our Recruitment Process

We conduct ongoing selection and use a competency-based recruitment method for a fair and objective assessment. Diversity is an asset, and we welcome all applicants. Nynäshamn Municipality has chosen to remove the cover letter and replace it with selection questions relevant to the position. Answers to the selection questions and the CV form the basis for determining if you are qualified to proceed in the process.

Certain positions may require a certificate of good conduct (extract from the criminal record).

We look forward to your application and hope you want to become part of our team!
